After making my kids Secret Agent ID badges yesterday, I had the idea to set up an "investigation". I started with one clue that led to another location, where they found another clue, and so on. At the end I had a "treasure", which was candy.
This was so much fun for my 3.5 year old! He loved trying to figure out what the clues were trying to tell him. I can tell that with a bit of practice with riddles he will get the hang of it quickly.
I made up 4 clues that rhymed to lead him all over the house. Here is an example:
"To get started you should look
For a clue in a book
About some kids and a Cat
In a tall, striped Hat"
The look on his face when he figured it out was priceless!
For a younger kid you could just take pictures of places around the house and have them find the place in the picture to get the next picture. My daughter is 1.5 and this was totally lost on her, but she liked following her brother around, and she could tell he was having fun, which made her feel happy too:)
This also lets you as the parent feel creative! And it can be a great activity to break up a long afternoon.
