I saw this idea on a web site and I love it! I always wanted to make my own puzzles:)
The craft requires popsicle sticks (the crafting ones are best because they are wider), glue or mod-podge, and a photo. If you don't have mod-podge you can make your own with half school glue and half water.
Crop a photo to fit the popsicle sticks when they are lined up, then cut the photo into strips to fit each stick. I used a picture from a magazine, but you can also use a family photo to make it more personal. Then just glue the pictures on the sticks, and if you are using mod-podge spread it on top of the picture as well so it doesn't curl up at the edges and the kids can't pick it off. Or, if you are not planning to keep this forever, just glue the strips on with plain old glue (that's what I did!).
The site also suggested writing numbers on the bottom of the sticks if you are working on number sequence with your kids. They wrote starting at 1, but if your kid is a bit beyond that you could always start at a higher number, or number them 10, 20, 30 etc. to help with different levels of sequencing. Or, just leave the numbers off:)
Here are the pics - one from the site with the numbers and the one I made, no numbers. Fun!
