Freebies and surprises at Rite Aid this week

My Rite Aid trip spanned 2 shopping days this week.  I got a few really great coupons on my receipt after my first trip, and I had to go back today to use them!!

I already posted about some of these deals, but I'll recap.

2 gerber baby food, after discount $1.19 each and got back $3 reward for buying 2.  I wanted to get more but they only had 2!

3 school supplies, $.33 each, got back $.99 in rewards for buying 3.

2 Oral B complete toothbrushes, $2.99.  Used 2 $.50 coupons so they cost $2.49 each and got back $2.99 each in rewards.

1 Oral B power toothbrush, $5.99.  Used a $3 coupon making it $2.99 and got back $2 in rewards.

I had a $5 coupon for John Frieda hair color, so I wanted to check out the price.  As soon as I hit the aisle I spotted a peelie coupon on the hair color - get a free shampoo when you buy the hair color.  So, I got the hair color, $10.39 after my discount, minus $5, and the shampoo was free.  So good!

2 Right Guard deodorant, sale price 2/$5.  I used 2 $1.50 coupons, so they were 2/$2, and then I used $1 peelie coupons from each deodorant, so they were free!!  I also got $1 back for buying 2 deodorant.

Also, I got a $3 Venus coupon and a $6 John Frieda conditioner coupon.  I bought one Venus razor for $8.99 sale price, and used the $3 coupon with a $5 manufacturer coupon.  I paid $.99 and got back $2.  With my gold discount, the John Frieda was only $5.99, so I got that free with the coupon.  It actually reduced the cost of the razor to $.98 because the.coupon was over the value by a penny. Too bad, because I was going to use my $.99 reward and pay nothing before tax! Oh well. $.98 ain't bad!

My cashier at this store was super nice too.  While he was ringing through my coupons he did ask my opinion about his relationship problems.  He was wondering if I were cheated on if I would want to know who the other person was.  That is the weirdest question I have ever been asked by a sales associate.

Anywho...my totals for both trips are as follows:

Total cost before tax was $12.71 for around $78 worth of stuff!! Earned back $14.97 in rewards. Yay!

$.20 for 17 items at CVS, plus a ton of rewards:)

I was in Santa Monica today to visit a friend with a new baby, and I stopped in at CVS for my couponing this week.  I am always nervous to shop in a new store because some cashiers are not coupon-friendly.  But I got the best cashier ever today!!  Lucky me.

I bought 17 items and paid only $.20 before tax.  Here is what I got:

2 Herbal Essences shampoo and conditioner, sale price 2/$5.  I used a buy one get one free coupon, with a max value of $4.99.  The coupon went through for $4.99, so they cost me only $.01!  And, I got back a $1 reward for buying 2.

1 Oral B power toothbrush, $5.99 sale price.  I used a $3 coupon, so it cost $2.99 and I got a $2 reward.

2 Bayer aspirin, regular price $3.49, buy one get one half price, $1.74.  Total was $5.23, I used 2 $2 coupons, so paid only $1.23 or $.62 each.

And now for the candy!  I have candy for the year after this trip!

Bought 6 Skinny Cow singles and 6 M&M's products, 3 bags and 3 bars.  All of these were on a promotion for $1 each and buy 2 get 1 free.  I added into the mix 6 buy one get one free coupons, all of which took off $1.10.  So, I paid only $1.40 for all 12, or $.12 per candy.  Not bad!

I used $6 in rewards to lower my out of pocket to $.20 before tax, $1.74 after tax, and I earned back $3 in rewards.

So while my cashier was ringing up my purchase and taking my coupons he was super impressed with my shopping skills.  After my receipt printed he told me to hang on and he would print me an extra reward.  He printed out an extra $10 reward!  How amazing is that?  That has never happened to me before.  I am so excited to have a few more extrabucks to play with next week.

Now that were are living in the flat lands (for 2 weeks) I am so excited about ordering delivery!  No one delivers up in the hilly lands of LA:)

Staples back to school goodies!

Staples is offering more 1 cent deals this week. You can pick up 2 of each school glue, pocket folders, and pencil cases for only.1 cent each when you spend $5.

When there is a minimum purchase at staples I always look for items with rewards or easy rebates. This week you can get a rebate on printer paper making it only $1 or photo paper making it $2. The good thing about these is that they ring up at over $5 so you can get the penny deals, and then you submit for a rebate so you get all but the $1 or $2 back. Sweet!

There are also a lot of 50 cent deals, so if you don't need paper consider spending $5 on cheap items like these! They would make perfect back to school donation items too.

Heal the Bay Aquarium at Santa Monica Pier

If you are heading down to the beach one of these summer days, be sure to check out Heal the Bay.  It is easy to miss, located under the pier, but it is worth seeking out.  It is really quite small, and admission is by donation, which means it is accessible to everyone.  They have touch tanks, jellyfish, and even music programs.  Have a look at the website for more details including hours.

Free Trial Class - Little Movers and Shakers Sherman Oaks

I did a session of this music class, and it was really different and fun.  If you have a free morning, sign up for a free demo class!  The class uses new and familiar songs, props, instruments, and has a very enthusiastic leader, Cathy.  She is really fun, but the class can be a little loud, so some kids might be a bit overwhelmed by it!  My daughter loved it but I think my son would have been too shy for it:)

Freebies and Rewards at Rite Aid!

I had $4 in rewards that expired yesterday, so I needed a way to roll them into more rewards without spending out of pocket. Luckily, Rite Aid has a great promotion on Stayfree this week!

Buy 2 Stayfree, sale price $2.99 each, get back $2 in rewards each. I also used 2 $1 manufacturer coupons. So my total was $3.98, and I earned back $4.

In order to use my $4 in rewards I needed to spend 2 more cents. I spotted these little cartons of goldfish crackers that made the perfect addition! They were $1, but with my 20% gold discount they were only $.80. They also had $.50 peelie coupons! So the carton was only $.30. Perfect!!

This was the perfect way to trade in my rewards that were about to expire and get fresh ones, plus a few free pads too:)

DIY Paper Popsicle Memory Game from Eat Drink Chic

I think this is the cutest craft I have seen all summer!  I was looking for a way to use Popsicle sticks, because I go through tons in my house.  If you use the link below you can download and print the Popsicle designs. You can use thick paper if your printer will take it, or just print on regular paper and mount it on something thicker. Then just add the designs onto your popsicle stick with a plain backing, and you have a DIY memory game with a twist!  The kids are sure to love this one:)

Link below to get the download.  Thanks to Amy at eatdrinkchic.com.  Great idea!

National Geographic Little Kids One Year Subscription, Just $12 | Plum District Deals

And one more Plum deal I just have to share!  I love this magazine for my 4 year old, and my almost 2 year old loves the pictures too!  It is small, and has lots of fun matching, spelling, look and find type games.  It is kind of old school and refreshing in the digital age!  $1 per issue?  Yeah, it's worth it!

I sometimes add these to the DIY workbook too.  I added one the other day that had pictures with the name of the item below, and you had to fill in the first letter.  Perfect workbook addition!!

Pamper & Play: Kids Playhouse + Mommy Time | Plum District Los Angeles: West LA Deals

I have not been to this play space yet, but I have heard it is really nice.  What I love about the concept is that they offer supervised play - you can sit in the mommy lounge with free coffee and wifi while other people enterain your kids, and you are right there if they need you.  What a great idea!  Some kids will take to this concept more readily than others, so this deal is definitely not for everyone.  Have a look at the link for all the details.

The deal is $30 for 4 hours of supervised play.  You do not have to use all 4 hours in one day.  I think this deal would be great if you buy it with a friend, and then the kids have someone to play with and so do you!!

Also, remember that on Plum District if you buy and deal and share it with friends, and then 3 of them buy the deal, you get yours free!

50 Free Prints In-Store at Target!

If you have some pictures on a memory card that you keep meaning to get printed, print this coupon and head to Target!  The coupon is for $5 off 50 prints, and the in store price is $.10 per print, making all 50 free!  The comments on this deal indicate that the price of $.10 is only valid at locations with a photo lab (as opposed to a kiosk), so make sure you find out if your store has one first!  You can also order the prints online and pick them up in store.

Even if you don't have prints you need to get for your albums, get a bunch ordered that you can use for crafts!  Kids love pictures of themselves and people they know, and there are so many fun things you can do with the photos.  Even just a simple collage can turn into something really special when you use pictures of your own family:)

Here is the link to the KCL post, and to the direct coupon link on the Target web site:

Hollywood Fire Station Museum - Free Admission

I recently won a raffle at a pancake breakfast for our local fire department, and the prize was dinner at the fire station.  My son and his friend had so much fun seeing all the gear and talking with the firemen, and most of all getting a ride in the truck!  When I saw the link for this free museum on Red Tricycle, I thought it would be super fun after such a great evening among fire trucks.

The museum is only open Saturdays from 10-4, but admission is always free.  They have a play space upstairs, and apparently can host events too.  Sounds like a winner:)

A new life for old crayons:)

I have about 5 pounds of crayons in my house, and for whatever reason no one wants to use them!  So I need a project to recycle all of these old bits into something my kids actually want to use.

I saw a lot of posts about melting down crayon bits in muffin tins to make round crayons, but I like this post that shows the same process but using a star shaped tin.  The colors can be combined in any way, and you can make any shape you have a mold for.  I have a feeling these little star crayons will be much more appealing, and the process of breaking them up and peeling off the paper before they are melted should be pretty fun too!!

Kids get in free with paid adult at LegoLand!!

I stopped at McDonald's today for a coffee on my way to get family from the airport, and I noticed a coupon on the back of my receipt for LegoLand (a.k.a. the coolest place ever!!).  The coupon is for a free kid's admission when you buy an adult admission.  It's not like you'd be sending them alone anyway, right??

To get your free kids ticket go to:

legoland.com/mcdonalds

and use promo code: 13020

As long as your kid is 36 inches or taller you will have a blast.  There are a ton of rides all along the west side of the park for smaller kids, a dinosaur excavation area, tons of splash pads, and live shows.  So much fun!
