Art for the Kids at LACMA

I took both kids to LACMA last week to see the Metropolis II exhibit, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much they enjoyed not just the exhibit but the other great things the gallery has to offer!

We first came across a great outdoor art piece that the kids could touch and even go inside.  It was a great chance to talk about what "art" is!  Then we hit the Metropolis exhibit.  They were both totally intrigued by the cars and trains zooming around.  What a cool piece!  It was even cooler from the observation deck up top.

We strolled through the gallery for a bit to see paintings and sculptures, and then headed over to the Boone Children's Museum area to make some art of our own.  There was a story time at the entrance, and then a whole room where the kids could paint their own masterpieces.  How fun!!

And remember, LACMA now offers free admission for anyone under 18, and each child can bring an adult for free too!  They also have those free music events on Fridays and Sundays, and special art projects every Sunday too.  Check my posts for free events to see more about these:)

Mertopolis is only running on certain dates and times, so check the schedule before you head out.  And try and go early - both parking lots were full when I arrived, and I was lucky to get a street spot.

Also, the Page Museum is right next door, so you can always plan a picnic in the park (if you don't mind the smell of the Tar Pits), and then off to a second adventure!
