Halloween crafts and food ideas from Pinterest

These are the Halloween crafts on my radar for this weekend:

I didn't credit each picture but they all came from pinterest:)

Do you know pumpkins float?

Most grown ups know that even a big heavy old pumpkin will float, but it comes as a surprise to a lot of kids.  It is true that a heavy pumpkin seems like it should sink, but in fact they are filled with air, so they don't!  My son and I had a great time experimenting with different size and shape pumpkins (I bought a bunch of the little $1 pumpkins at the patch instead of the big $20 variety!!), and then we tried other objects around the house to see if we could find some common reasons that some things float and some things don't.  We kept a list of things that float and things that didn't float to help us look for similarities.  This is a fun little science experiment, and gets the kids excited and involved.  And, it is Halloween themed, so even better:)

Other Rite Aid Deals This Week

This week was some fun shopping at Rite Aid!  I was able to get everything on my list.

Bought 2 Colgate Max Fresh, $3.50 each and get back $3 in rewards.  I found some $1/1 coupons I had printed a while ago that were expiring today, so they only cost $2.50 each and I got back the $3 each.

Dove hair products are $3 each when you buy 2, and you get a $2 reward when you buy 2.  I bought 2 and used 2 $1.50/1 coupons, plus a $2/2 Rite Aid video values coupon.  So I paid only $1 for both items and got back $2 in rewards.

Bought 2 Caress body wash, priced $3 each when you buy 2, and get $2 reward when you buy 2.  I used 2 $2/1 coupons, so I paid $2 for both and got back $2.

Campbells soup is priced at $2 each, but you get a $1 for each one limit 3.  I bought 3 and used a $1.25/3 coupon, so I paid $4.75 and got back $3.

Ocean Nasal Spray is also on sale for $.99 and you can print a $1 coupon from their facebook page.  I didn't get this because I have enough of it, but it is a freebie:)

Also, you can print a coupon from the Rite Aid facebook page for $2 off a Revlon cosmetic or beauty tool.  A lot of beauty tools are priced under $2, so you can get one free.  Not bad:)

Rite Aid Beauty Tools Rewards Money Maker!

I love when the amount you spend on something is exceeded by the amount of rewards you earn back!  This week at Rite Aid when you buy 2 beauty tools you get $4 back.  The great news is tools start as low as $.99, and if you have a gold membership you get an extra 20% off!  I bought nail clippers and tweezers for only $1.49 each, and after my discount they were only $1.20, so I paid $4.80 and got back $8!!  Love that.

There were so many good grocery deals this week at Target that I can't even post them all!  Have a look at the link to see the KCL Target page.  As you scroll down you will see the main listing for Target deals (click read more to see the whole list, and look for the triangle signs for stock-up prices) and then scroll down more to see headlines of her posts about the different deals.  You can score Marie Callendar's side dishes for only $.04, cheap Halloween candy, and even some great deals on meat and fresh produce!  And there are lots of other goodies to be had too, like free dental floss and cheap Neosporin.  So many deals, so little time!!

Organix & deodorant cheap at CVS!

This week I finally got a few good coupons from the coupon machine!  Here is what I got:

Organix hair, body wash, and lotion was on sale for $4.99, and I had 4 $2/1 coupons from the paper.  I bought 2 body wash, and stacked a $2/2 CVS coupon.  Then I bought 2 lotion, and used a $2/$10 CVS coupon.  So each bottle cost $4.99-$2-$1 = $1.99.  Not bad for a nicer brand!  No rewards, but I think they will be nice in a teacher gift.

The deodorant deal I got could have been better, so I'll tell you the ideal and then what I had to substitute!

Right Guard is on sale for $3, and you get back $1.50 when you buy 2. I had 4 $1.50/1 coupons, so if I bought 4 I would pay $6 and get back $3.  I also had a $2.50/$12 deodorant purchase coupon from CVS, so it would have come down to $3.50 for all 4 and I'd get back 3.

My store only had 3 of the Right Guard, but I did want to use the $2.50/$12, so I chose Mitchum for my 4th item, which was on sale for $1.99 and I had a $1 coupon.  I spent $5.50, minus the $2.50 = $3, but only got back $1.50.  Still worked out well, but I would have preferred 4 Right Guard!

Also, check out this deal on replacement heads for Oral B brushes that KCL found this week.  My store was out, but a good deal:

Bought 2 Cross Action Power Refill, 2 ct $5.99
Buy 1, Receive $2.00 ExtraBucks, Limit 2
Used two $5.00/1 Oral-B Replacement Brush Heads, 2 or 3 ct, Limit 4 like coupons per household per day from PG 9/29 (exp 10/31)
Paid $1.98, Received $4.00 ExtraBucks
Final Cost: $2.02 Moneymaker

Endeavour Fest at the Science Center Oct 11-13

I really loved our last visit to the Science Center to see the space shuttle.  It was amazing to be in the same room with it!  This weekend, starting today, you can visit the Science Center for Endeavor Fest, a 3 day celebration of the 1 year anniversary of the space shuttle's arrival in LA.  There will be lots of special exhibits, and even real astronauts!  If you have a kid who loves space this is the place to be!  And admission is free, as always:)

Hopefully this event is not impacted y the government shut down.  I didn't see anything on the web site, but it might be worth a quick call just to be sure everything is going according to plan before you head out!

Target Toys Coupon Stack

I love when Target coupons match up with manufacturer coupons. This week I bought 2 great Christmas gifts for the kids. On each toy I was able to use both $5 Target coupon and $5 manufacturer coupon, so a total of $20 savings!
For my son I got the batcave toy pictured on sale (already $5 off) for $29.99, so it came down to $19.99 after coupons, and for my daughter the Fisher Price farm toy, on sale ($7 off) for $32.99, so it was $22.99. Including sale prices I saved $32!

Here are pictures of the toys...

These are both $34.99 at Toys R Us

Taste of Encino Street Festival Sun Oct 13

Check out the Taste of Encino Street Festival this weekend at Ventura and Balboa!  There will be tons of vendors and schools set up with booths and info, and a kids' area with a bounce house, rock climbing, pumpkin patch and more.  Admission is free, but the rides probably have an added fee.  It's just fun to head out with the stroller and see so many people hanging out together:)

This Sunday there was a $5/1 Vidal Sassoon coupon. This week the color was on sale for $8.99. I bought 3, which came to only $11.97 after coupons.  I then used my $10 reward to make all 3 boxes $1.97!

Better-than-Free Visine Eye Drops at Walgreens! | | The Krazy Coupon Lady

This deal is so good that I had to post about it, but I will also say try it at your own risk!  I have found many Walgreens stores are pretty tight with the coupon policy, and when you have a $2 coupon for an item that is $1.99 they will sometimes not allow it, even though they should according to the coupon policy!  But if ou are up for a challenge, print out the policy and give this deal a try!

Rite Aid Coupon Stacking!

The start of a new month means a whole new batch of video values coupons on the Rite Aid website. These coupons are great because you can stack them with a manufacturer coupon for awesome deals! Here is what I got today. I was a bit distracted because I was shopping with my 2 year old, but still got some good deals:)
There was a promotion this week where you get $5 reward if you spend $15 on select Unilever products. Remember the $15 is before coupons. I got:
1 simple face wipes, sale price $5. I used a $2 video values coupon (vvq) and a $3 manufacturer coupon (mq) that I got from the Rite Aid Catalina machine. It was free!
4 Tresemme hair products sale price $3.50 each. I used 4 $2.50/1 mqs and 1 $1/1 vvq. It was only $3 for all 4 items!!
L'Oreal advanced shampoo, sale price $3.99. Used $2/1 mq and $1/1 vvq, so it was $.99.
Nexxus shampoo, regular price $6.19. With my gold discount 20% off it was only $4.95. I had a $4 mq from the Catalina machine, and a $2 vvq, so I made $1.05 to buy it!
Last I bought 4 bags of Halloween candy. They were on sale 2/$5. I used 2 $1/2 vvq's and $1.50/3 mq. I spent $6.50 for 4 bags and got $2 total.back in rewards.
I also used a $5 reward, so I spent only $4.44 before tax and got back $7 ($5 for Unilever and $2 for candy).  Yay!

Free Book from Kellogg's!

Have you heard of the Kellogg's family rewards program? You can enter codes found inside Kellogg's products to earn coupons and free stuff. And you can even enter codes by text - couldn't be easier!
I saw on the back of our Mini Wheats box that you only need 3 codes to earn a free book from Scholastic.  How cool!  Thanks to my friend Mr. D for telling me about this program:)

www.kelloggsfreebook.com

To get the book you need specially marked products, but codes from other products will still earn you rewards in the program for other things.

Best Pumpkin Patches in Los Angeles - Red Tricycle

Last week we made our first venture out to the Pumpkin Patch!  We went to Mr. Bones because the petting zoo and pony rides were open weekdays, and some are just weekends.  I didn't post about this trip because even though the admission is free, I felt pretty sure there was a cheaper, just as great (or better) patch to be found.  I think $7 for a pony ride is just too much!  Maybe the perfect patch is on this list, from Red Tricycle.  I will let you know if I find a winner:)

JoAnn's 50% off Halloween!

In typical JoAnn fashion, Halloween items are 50% off already! They always seem to reduce prices just at the time I get around to shopping. I picked up a ton of stickers, craft kits, and projects for half price, plus I used a 15% off catalina coupon from Vons. Yay! This should keep my kids busy!
If you have the option I would try JoAnn's before Michael's. The selection is always hit and miss, but you might just score some great stuff!
