Hand Made Clay Necklaces - Cool Gift Idea!

I saw this idea in the current issue of Family Fun Magazine.  I love to have the kids make something for the grandparents for Christmas instead of buying something.  I think it means more to my parents and in-laws to have something handmade, and I like that my kids put some serious focus and energy into a project that they are making to give to someone else.  Like a lot of kids, mine want to keep everything for themselves, from pine cones they find at the park to that really cute teeny tiny blueberry.  Ok, maybe my kids are a bit weird.

But anyway, these necklaces are a super easy and cute craft and gift!  You can help younger kids by making the clay shape for them, and older kids can do their own or use a cookie cutter shape (we used play dough shapes).  The kids both had a great time sticking the beads into the clay.

I also like this craft because you need to buy glass beads - plastic ones would melt when you bake the clay (might be kind of cool too!), and this week at Michael's all beads are half price!  Perfect time to shop.  You can also get a large block of oven bake clay for about $8-$9, and if you kept a flyer from the weekend paper you can use a 50% off coupon.  So not a bad outcome for a pretty special creation!

Beaded Clay Necklaces

Surprise someone with a boho-inspired mosaic necklace your child can proudly say she made herself. Working on foil (so that the piece can be transferred to the oven), roll or press oven-bake polymer clay into a sheet about 1/4 inch thick. Use a dull knife to cut out a shape. Create a hole or two for the cord with a toothpick, wiggling it to widen. Press small glass beads firmly into the clay. Once the design is done, check the holes and reopen any, if needed. Bake the clay as directed. Coat the cooled piece with clear nail polish and add a cord.

Shaving Deals at CVS!

I did not get this super cool $4/$10 shaving products coupon from the CVS coupon machine, but I did get one last week for $5 off any CVS brand 5 blade razor, and I put it to good use today.  They are part of this promotion, along with a few other select shaving items, where you get $4 back in rewards if you spend $10.  The razor was priced at $9.29, so I also bought an Edge shave gel for $3.49, and it happened to have the bonus razor attached (yay!).  I used the $5 cvs coupon and a $1 coupon on the shave gel, and paid $6.78 for both.  I also cashed in my $5 in Beauty Bucks (you get $5 for every $50 you spend on beauty products), so my total was only $1.78 and I got back $4.  I was happy to get some kind of deal at CVS, it's been a little slow for me lately!

I was at the Sherman Oaks Street Fair this weekend, and I got a flyer for a free event happening this weekend, on Sunday Oct 27 from 12-2.  Kids get a free pumpkin to carve, and there are other events and games too.

I love shopping weeks when I have a lot of rewards to roll over.  I can check out with almost nothing out of pocket, and still get back more in rewards!  After the great beauty tools deal last week I had lots of rewards to spend.  Here is what I got:

2 Lady Speed Stick, sale price $2.99.  I used 2 $.50 coupons, and got back $2 for each one.

Physician's Formula cosmetics, the deal is spend $15 get $10 reward.  I have the gold discount, so full price items I get 20% off, which can mess with my totals!  So I bought 2 felt marker eye liners for $6.04 after discount, and one eye pencil for $4.76 after the discount.  I also used $1 coupons on each item.  So I spent $13.84 to get back $10 - not bad!

I used a total of $18 in rewards from last week (and I still had $3 left over!), so my total before tax was only $.82!!  And, I got back $14 in rewards for next week.  Such a good deal.

I also read that Finesse shampoo was a good deal, but I didn't get the $1 coupon.  If you did, the deal was buy at $2.99, use a $1 coupon and get $2 back.

Halloween crafts and food ideas from Pinterest

Do you know pumpkins float?

Most grown ups know that even a big heavy old pumpkin will float, but it comes as a surprise to a lot of kids.  It is true that a heavy pumpkin seems like it should sink, but in fact they are filled with air, so they don't!  My son and I had a great time experimenting with different size and shape pumpkins (I bought a bunch of the little $1 pumpkins at the patch instead of the big $20 variety!!), and then we tried other objects around the house to see if we could find some common reasons that some things float and some things don't.  We kept a list of things that float and things that didn't float to help us look for similarities.  This is a fun little science experiment, and gets the kids excited and involved.  And, it is Halloween themed, so even better:)

Other Rite Aid Deals This Week

This week was some fun shopping at Rite Aid!  I was able to get everything on my list.

Bought 2 Colgate Max Fresh, $3.50 each and get back $3 in rewards.  I found some $1/1 coupons I had printed a while ago that were expiring today, so they only cost $2.50 each and I got back the $3 each.

Dove hair products are $3 each when you buy 2, and you get a $2 reward when you buy 2.  I bought 2 and used 2 $1.50/1 coupons, plus a $2/2 Rite Aid video values coupon.  So I paid only $1 for both items and got back $2 in rewards.

Bought 2 Caress body wash, priced $3 each when you buy 2, and get $2 reward when you buy 2.  I used 2 $2/1 coupons, so I paid $2 for both and got back $2.

Campbells soup is priced at $2 each, but you get a $1 for each one limit 3.  I bought 3 and used a $1.25/3 coupon, so I paid $4.75 and got back $3.

Ocean Nasal Spray is also on sale for $.99 and you can print a $1 coupon from their facebook page.  I didn't get this because I have enough of it, but it is a freebie:)

Also, you can print a coupon from the Rite Aid facebook page for $2 off a Revlon cosmetic or beauty tool.  A lot of beauty tools are priced under $2, so you can get one free.  Not bad:)

I love when the amount you spend on something is exceeded by the amount of rewards you earn back!  This week at Rite Aid when you buy 2 beauty tools you get $4 back.  The great news is tools start as low as $.99, and if you have a gold membership you get an extra 20% off!  I bought nail clippers and tweezers for only $1.49 each, and after my discount they were only $1.20, so I paid $4.80 and got back $8!!  Love that.
