I noticed that I was no longer getting the cool CVS email coupons that I used to get, so I decided to register a new card. I did get a 20% off email coupon right away, so we'll see if it lasts!
I went in looking to pick up the Palmolive dish soap, on sale for $.88 minus a $.50 coupon.
I also read about cans of edge shave gel with a bonus razor attached. They were $3.49 at my store, and the promotion was spend $10 get $4 in rewards. I.bought 4 cans, used 2 buy one get one free coupons, and got 20% off.
I also found these little bottles of Got2b gel, only $2.57 each. My 20% off applied to these too, and I got a $5 reward for buying 2. Too bad the limit was 1 on that deal!
The only downside of using the new card was that I couldn't pay with rewards! Rewards are linked to your card and not transferable. But I ended up paying only about $10 out of pocket to earn back $9, and now I can start rolling rewards on this new account!

Cookie Cutter Sandwiches
Looking for an easy way to spruce up your kid's lunchbox? Look to see if you have any large cookie cutters in the baking cupboard! They make a really fun variation on a regular old sandwich! Metal cutters work best. I sent my son in with little star sandwiches, and they were a great topic of conversation around the lunch table:)
Party Fun #2 - Oreo Cookie Pop Wands
These are the party favors I made for the Tinkerbell party. They turned out really cute, and super tasty. These work great as a party favor, and I love that the options are really endless for ways to decorate these! I can see Halloween colors, Valentines Day, Christmas, 4th of July, pretty much anything.
Here are the instructions. I did this over 2 nights, and the timing worked out well.
What you need:
Double Stuff Oreo Cookies
Colored chocolate for melting
Oil
Sprinkles
Sticks (these are sold mainly for making chocolate lollipops with molds)
The first step is to melt the chocolate. Add a little oil to the bowl (about a tablespoon per bag of discs) so that the chocolate is runnier. Microwave it at half power for 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between, until it is smooth and melted.
Take a stick and dip one end in a bit of chocolate, then push it into the Oreo filling. I put the cookies into the freezer for a few minutes to let the stick get really set.
Next, cover the oreo part in chocolate and shake off the excess. This is why you want to freeze them for a few minutes, so you can really shake and not loose your cookie! I then put the cookie on a cookie sheet lined with parchment. I let the chocolate set for about a minute before adding the sprinkles, so that they didn't sink too far into the chocolate.
Put the finished cookies into the freezer overnight to let them set.
The next day I took the cookies out to get to room temperature before wrapping them. I bought these little candy bags at JoAnns (I had no idea they existed, but they were perfect!). I used recycled gift ribbon to tie the bottoms. I found that the curled gift ribbon you sometime get on top of a present was perfect - just the right length, and already curled!!
Stand them in a foam block (also JoAnn's), and they are ready to go!
The dipping and sprinkles step would be really fun to with your kids, especially if you are making them to give to classmates.

CVS this week - $121 savings!
This week was kind of crazy at CVS! There were so many things I wanted to get, and the store I went to in the Valley had almost everything on my list.
My best score was on baby care stuff, but I'll do that last.
Bought 3 Triaminic kids sale price $4.99 used $3/1 coupons, so $1.99 each
Bought 2 Colgate 360 toothbrushes, sale price $2.99 used $1 coupons, so $1.99 each and got back $2 each.
Bought 1 Hydro Silk razor, sale price $9.99, used $4 coupon so $5.99 and got back $4.
I had a $10/$50 baby care coupon from CVS, and there was a promotion this week for spend $30 on Huggies, J&J etc get $10 back. I planned to hit the $30 anyway because I needed baby shampoo and bubble bath, and then I got some good clearance deals on top of it. It went like this:
Bought 1 Huggies slip on, sale $9.49. Used $3 cvs q and $2.50 mq, so $3.99 total.
Bought 1 Huggies Pull-ups, sale $9.49 and used $2 coupon.
Bought 1 Huggies 3 pack wipes, sale price $5.99, used $.50 coupon.
Bought 3 J&J baby shampoo, $2.99 each and used $.50 coupons on each.
That brought my total to $33.94 before coupons, which would trigger the reward. But then I spotted a big box of Luvs on clearance 75% off, so only $6.74, and I had the $1 coupon. That brought my total up over $40, so I figured might as well spend another $10 in order to use the $10/$50 coupon. Adding another 2 items onto the purchase actually made them free. Awesome.
So I got 1 more pack of Pull ups, $9.49 minus the $2 q, and one pack of Huggies wipes small pack on clearance for $2.54, minus $.50 coupon.
My total for the baby stuff before coupons was $52.71, and I used $23 in coupons, so it was $29.71 and I got back $10. I also had $14 in store rewards to use on this purchase, even better!!
So all told I spent $26.75 before tax (after coupons and rewards) and got back $18 for next trip. And, I think I might have enough diapers to last through potty training!!

Party Fun #1 - Grape Caterpillars
I made these super cute grape caterpillars for my daughters birthday party. They were so easy and they just make me laugh every time I look at them!
We had her 2nd birthday this weekend, and I tried out some new stuff to help keep costs down. I still spent too much, but I did learn some new tricks!
To make these little guys I used plain white frosting as my "glue". I just put some in a ziploc bag and clipped one corner to squeeze out a little at a time and keep it neat. The biggest tip is to make sure the grapes are dry. Then just pop two mini chocolate chips on for the eyeballs and stick them in the fridge to set. So fun!

Wednesdays 2 for 1 Admission at Giggles N Hugs!
I can't remember if I already knew this, but Wednesday is 2 for 1 admission at Giggles and Hugs. That's a good deal! Grab a buddy and go play:)
Children's Place Clearance plus 20% off thru 9/22
Oh my goodness, Children's Place was on fire today! Not really, but like super hot deals! I love it.
I have been getting emails about the 50% off on already reduced items, which is my favorite time to shop, and I also had an email coupon for another 20% off, so I went looking for stuff for next summer for my kids, and gifts for other kids too.
I need to stress this - a LOT of stuff on the 50% off rack was not properly priced. I had them ring up shorts that were tagged at $12 or more, so half price is just ok, but it turned out they were already on sale for only $4.99, so half price was $2.49! Big difference. So get a price check if you are looking on the sale rack but don't see a reduced price tag on top of the regular price.
I got boys and girls shorts for $2.49, minus the 20% they were only $1.99 each. The older boys shorts were $3.99, so $3.19 after the discount. I also got some boys T shirts sale priced at $1.99, so they were only $1.59 each. These will be awesome summer camp shirts for next year! Last I got some onesies on sale for $2.99, so $2.39 after discount.
All together I spent $44.60 before tax for 20 pieces of clothing! That comes out to $2.23 a piece. Awesome!!
The store code is 181 - give that to the cashier for the extra 20% off, and remember to get everything price checked - it is probably cheaper than you think!!!
Minty Fresh Deals at CVS this week - 6 items for $.64!
I have had the worst luck at the CVS coupon center lately, and I have stopped getting the percent off email coupons all together. I think it is time to register a new card! However, today I stopped in to get a few oral care items, and I got a $2.50/$12 oral care purchase coupon. Yay, a coupon I can actually use!!
I bought:
4 Colgate mouthwash, sale price 2/$5.98 and $3 rewards when you buy 2. I used 4 $2/1 coupons, so 2/$1.98 twice, and got back $6 rewards total,
Next I bought 2 Colgate 4 pack travel size toothpaste. These cost $3.59 at my store but they also generate a $3 reward each.
My total after coupons was $8.64. I had $8 in rewards from last week (Colgate and Softsoap deals), so I paid only $.64 before tax and earned back $12 in rewards.
